Skin Conditions in Baby Photoshoots

Updated: Oct 14

Are you dealing with skin conditions?

Lately, I've seen more and more parents struggling with their little ones’ skin issues, so I thought it might be helpful to address some concerns in a post. Skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema, baby acne, or dry patches can be common in babies and toddlers, and I understand how it might affect your decision to schedule a photoshoot.

Since our family has been dealing with dermatitis, we know firsthand how unpleasant it can be, especially when it appears on the face. One common concern I hear from parents is that they worry their child's skin condition might affect their photos, and this is often why they delay or avoid booking milestone shoots.

Our personal experience with skin conditions

We experienced this ourselves, waiting for Andrei’s skin to improve before taking pictures to capture those special moments. Unfortunately, his skin would get better, only to flare up again after a few days. We tried different treatments and visited doctors, but the issue persisted. As a parent, you know how difficult it is to prevent a child from scratching—especially when it's itchy and uncomfortable. It's almost impossible to control!

Can skin conditions be edited in photos?

The good news is, yes! I retouched photos and minimized the appearance of skin conditions like eczema, baby acne, dry patches, or scratches. For Andrei, I’ve edited out redness and crust formed near his mouth due to scratching.

For other children, I’ve been able to remove redness, dry skin flakes, and unify their skin colours to create a smooth and clean look. It's important to note that I never retouch permanent features like birthmarks, as these are part of your child’s unique identity. However, temporary issues like redness or acne can be fixed to ensure your child looks their best in photos.

What should you do if you’re worried about your child’s skin condition in photos?

If you're concerned about how your child's skin might look in the final photos, I recommend sending a phone snapshot. I can provide a demo or a sample edit to show how the retouching might look. This can give you peace of mind, knowing that the final images will beautifully capture your child without the distraction of any temporary skin issues.

What if my child’s skin flare-up happens right before the photoshoot?

It’s very common for skin issues like dermatitis or eczema to flare up unexpectedly, right before a scheduled photoshoot. Don’t panic! We can still go ahead with the shoot. Skin flare-ups happen, and you don’t have to cancel the session. These moments are still precious, and editing allows us to reduce or completely remove any redness, dry patches, or acne that might be visible.

As parents, we all want to capture special moments in our children’s lives, but I understand how skin issues can cause hesitation. Remember, these skin conditions are temporary, and there’s no reason to delay those milestone photoshoots. Through editing, we can ensure that your child’s images reflect their natural beauty, without the distraction of temporary skin problems.

Thanks to the parents for agreeing to show the before and after pictures!
